Who’s In Charge, Anyway?

You may remember during Episode 49, David & Tommy talked about the inmates running the asylum, a situation that can occur when the ego-mind gets out of control and begins to believe it’s in charge. Well, this week, the Soul Talk Guys revisit those cute but oh-so-dangerous gremlins and help you find a path toward resuming command of your own life situation!

Why do you suppose we call them gremlins anyway? Well, it’s because each one of them is a different aspect of the ego-mind, and each one has its own unique personality. In some ways, these gremlins seem to be cute and cuddly and somewhat endearing, but when they don’t get their way, look out! That’s when real trouble happens!

Make no mistake: the ego-mind in all its variations certainly has a place in the overall picture for your life, but it’s pretty clear that the ego-mind was never intended to be a Commander-in-Chief. It’s just far too immature and short-sighted for that job. While the ego-mind is ideal for handling specific details of life and helping us to navigate our way through the physical world, it doesn’t really have the capability for big-picture thinking. We all need a much more powerful part of ourselves to manage that job.

And what part do you think we’re referring to here? Why, your Soul of course—that part of you that is connected to whatever you might imagine as your Higher Power, which has the big-picture of what your life is supposed to look like.

When you quiet the chatter of your ego-mind and connect in with that bigger part of yourself, you become aware of who you really are. And this leads you to realize that you are much, much bigger than you ever gave yourself credit for. In fact, your Soul knows just how boundless and amazing you really are, and will—if you listen very carefully—provide all the information you need to regain control of your life and begin following the path you always intended to follow.

Think if it as a crossroads:

  • Do you want to be controlled by the gremlin aspects of your ego-mind, or
  • Do you want to align with the real truth of who you are and live a life of complete fulfillment and satisfaction?

Let the Soul Talk Guys provide some guidance here! You already know the amazing wisdom and unconditional love they bring, so watch the video now and give yourself permission to get your fair share!

Do you have such high hopes and expectations for yourself that you hold yourself hostage to achieving them?

Personal Standards. Lofty Goals. High Expectations. Ever had any of these? Perhaps you have them even now!

And, do you, perhaps, carry a virtual whip around in order to make sure you “toe the line” and never deviate from your “designated path”?

Well, in many respects, this behavior is quite understandable.

When we are young, we look up to the adults in our lives, and the advice they are only too happy to give us is no doubt intended to help us succeed in the world. But the truth is, we’re set onto a road of never-ending self-improvements from a very early age. Almost all of us have messages like these fed to us like a constant diet of don’t-let-me-down gruel:

  • Get good grades.
  • Do your best.
  • Make me proud.
  • Come back a winner.
  • <Add your own favorite here!>

Do you by any chance remember this line from one of America’s popular songs from the 70s?

Oz never did give nothin’ to the Tin Man, that he didn’t, didn’t already have.

You see, you can listen to the advice of others all you want. And some of it may even be useful and helpful. But you already have all the wisdom, knowledge and ability you need in order to live your life in the best way possible. The truth is, if you let yourself just BE YOU, you’ll be good at pretty much anything you do. A parent. A partner. A friend. A business owner. A ditch digger. No matter what your passion might be.

However, there is still the problem, isn’t there? You may hear in your mind that you’ve never quite made it yet, that you’re not quite there, that you’ve got to keep trying. This is because the encouraging voices of others that you heard before can transform themselves into the demanding voice of your own inner-personal disapproval. As a result, you may carrying some unconscious disempowering beliefs like you can never have what you need, or that you can never meet the expectations that have been set for you.

We picked up and adopted expectations that were told to us over and over again, until we believed them wholeheartedly. And now, we hold our own feet to the fire in order to ensure that somehow, some way, we finally fulfill some high hope. Before we die. Please.

The Soul Talk Guys think it’s high time we stop doing this to ourselves. There is no need for any of us to seek to be perfect and make ourselves crazy in the process. David & Tommy want to encourage you and help you to lay down your burden once and for all, and start living the kind of life that really matters to you.

Check out this week’s video, and start untying another knot so as to set yourself free.

When things get out of control, it can seem like the crew has mutinied or the gremlins have stormed the control tower!

  • Have you noticed that we all seem to believe that life is supposed to be a challenge and that we are supposed to struggle and suffer?
  • Have you noticed how much stress and worry and misery we all seem to be living with?
  • Have you ever wondered why this is so?
  • Have you ever wondered what you can do about it?

Getting all caught up in the drama of your ego-mind can create all kinds of havoc, chaos, and confusion in your life. And this can lead to more undesirable consequences than you might care to admit! And the stress that accompanies the chaos can have lots of negative—and sometimes even devastating—effects on your well-being…as well as the well-being of your loved ones.

You know what it feels like—pick your favorite metaphor:

  • A VW pulled up under the Big Top and unloaded 192 uncooperative clowns into my brain!
  • The crew of my ship have all mutinied and locked me up in the brig!
  • The gremlins have managed to shut down all services and have taken over the control room!
  • The inmates have revolted, demolished the security system, and are now running the asylum!

So how does this happen? Why do we all have our own version of one of these chaotic metaphors? Mainly, it’s because we haven’t been taught how to tame the rogue elephant brain. We didn’t learn this—in school or anywhere else—because our parents didn’t learn if from their parents…whose parents didn’t know either! But, guess what? It’s not all that difficult to regain control of all the crazy thoughts in your head and the confused emotions in your heart.

It’s just a question of learning a new skill.

Are you ready to try?

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired; if you are ready to take control of your life, once and for all; well, then this episode of Life Mastery TV might just be the one that will help you change everything. For good and forever!

It’s so easy, isn’t it? To hold ourselves in high esteem and judge others. To call ourselves right and others wrong.

It’s so easy to sit up on our high, holy throne and cast judgment on anyone or anything that doesn’t meet our standards. To face this issue, which according to one book is called “original sin”, it helps to look at the last four words of the previous sentence.

Doesn’t meet our standards.

Here are some questions for you to ponder:

  • Who gets to decide the standards for everyone?
  • How does it serve us to think that we have a better idea of standards than anyone else?
  • Who are we, with our limited mastery of anything, to hold others accountable to our ever-changing expectations and beliefs?

Perhaps you can begin to hear some of the lunacy laced into this logic; perhaps you can see the nonsense wrapped up in judgment. Some say it started long ago with an apple and a forewarning about the knowledge of good and evil. Wherever judgment came from, almost all of us are afflicted with the power of judgment. The proof is in the pudding of everything from gossiping to killing and war…all based on a head full of judgments:

  • Right vs Wrong
  • Good vs Bad
  • Appropriate vs Inappropriate
  • Acceptable vs Unacceptable

To be fair, we need to recognize that judgment is a necessary skill for navigating our way through the world. But we’re talking here about how we judge each other, and the damage it can cause.

But you know what? When we learn to let go of judging, life takes on a lighter, freer, more enjoyable dimension. Find out more about how to do this by checking in with David & Tommy in this week’s episode!

Have some bad habits or old patterns you want to change? Join us for some enlightening dialog about how to dig deep and shine some light on things.

Here are some things that seem to be pretty universally true:

  • Everyone wants to “be happy”.
  • Everyone wants to be free from suffering.
  • Everyone wants to have a good life.

What’s more, we’re all excellent, intelligent human beings with the capacity to create reality through our thoughts and imagination. So, why do so many of us still feel like something’s not right? Is it because we’re not trying hard enough? Perhaps not taught how to create a good life for ourselves? Perhaps still dealing with the effects of bad decisions made in our past? Is it just Human Nature? Are we just destined by our decedents to suffer the same human maladies they did?

NO, of course not! We have full ability to change the way we think and behave anytime we want. So why don’t we? Why don’t we just wake up tomorrow on the right side of the bed and start a new life?

Because of WEEDS. That’s right: WEEDS…

  • patterns or conditions or beliefs we’ve picked up along the way that no longer serve our best interest—if they ever did;
  • things buried in our psyche that unconsciously drive conscious decisions;
  • habits (or even addictions) we have adopted to help us cope with various aspects of our lives.

The key to improving your life, making it a little better each day, is to dig up the weeds when you find them. And, as you might already realize, you must dig up the entire root system, or else the weeds will just grow back.

This week, we share some life-enhancing techniques of Root Cause Analysis, to help you answer questions like these:

  • What do you do when a non-desirable behavior comes up?
  • How do you get down to the root of the problem?
  • How do you dig up the weed by its roots?

If you want to find out what’s troubling you and how to eradicate it, check out this week’s presentation for a very important Life Matter. We’ll dig deep and uproot some common WEEDS that block us from being the best we can be.

We may even get to the “root of all evil”…

If you find yourself suffering because you tend to take things personally, then this week’s discussion is for you!

If you’ve ever read The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, then you probably remember that his 2nd agreement is “Don’t Take Anything Personally”. Of all the agreements described in Ruiz’s book, this is probably the one that challenges people the most.

The ego-mind does a very good job of keeping us on alert; in its ongoing mission to keep us safe, it regularly engages in things like:

  • telling us that we are not good enough;
  • warning us that whatever we are about to try is going to fail miserably;
  • reminding us that people are bad, and that they are all out to get us.

And if we haven’t been doing the work necessary to heal old wounds and re-connect to who we really are, then we actually tend to believe our ego-minds. This, of course, makes us extremely sensitive to what is going on around us, and it’s easy for us to fall into the disempowering and debilitating trap of taking things personally.

If you would like to free yourself from the idea that when people do things that cause you pain, they do it on purpose, then you owe it to yourself to check out this week’s discussion. Imagine how much lighter you’ll be when you

Don’t Take Anything Personally!

In this episode, we tackle this subject head-on and leave you with some tools that can really help you to stop taking things personally.

No matter how much planning you do, you never really know what’s going to happen. Well, find out what happens when there is no plan at all!

When you are preparing to do something, you almost certainly start with some kind of plan, right? This is something that most of us do, and it’s a great idea. But no matter how much planning you do, there are always things that can go wrong, things that you can’t possibly anticipate. In other words, as the saying goes, you pretty much have to Expect the Unexpected!

Well, in this installment of Life Mastery TV, we tempt fate by having no plan at all! That’s right, in this episode, we come on the show with no specific agenda and just see what happens. But if you’ve watched us before, you just know that something interesting and magical will happen, no matter how things turn out.

If you like to step into the unknown now and then, and maybe feel a little fear in your body because you don’t know exactly what to expect, then this show is for you!

Expectation is very different from anticipation, and attachment to desired outcomes can lead to disappointment.

We humans tend to think of expectations as necessities. We expect fresh food at the market. We expect others to follow the rules of the road. We expect people to behave in a civilized, if not nice, manner. But what happens when things don’t go according to our “plan”? What happens inside us when our expectations aren’t met?

Expectations are one of those double-edged swords that can cut into our peace and happiness. While one part of us may think it’s important to have expectations, another part of us knows how much misery and suffering our unmet expectations can cause:

  • When we get bad service at the restaurant, our “meal is ruined”.
  • When the price of gas keeps going up, we get angry.
  • When somebody doesn’t show up on time, we get stressed.

And what’s the common theme every time one of our expectations goes unanswered?

WE FEEL WORSE. . .

We set ourselves up for something, and then when that something doesn’t happen, it takes a toll on our attitude, emotions, and energy. Expectations are one of those “problems” disguised as a solution!

In this episode, we discuss this issue in some depth. Check it out and learn how to distinguish between realistic anticipation and frustrating expectation.
